Hospitality Question

Understand and be able to teach prohibition and it's impact on American Society

Prohibition was passed during the 1920's, which was the 18th amendment in the constitution. This new law meant that it was illegal to sale, transport, or produce alcohol. This was made possible by a couple of groups that were against it. For example, people in the World War 1. To produce alcohol, they needed wheat. They thought that there were better need for it during the war instead of using it for alcohol.

The American Society was crushed due to the new law. Many people then started to import alcohol from all over. Clubs weren't getting as much money as before since they sold alcohol and most people and to drink. Thanks to this, SpeakEasies started to emerge. SpeakEasies was a place where people can go and enjoy themselves by drinking, gambling, eating, and much more.

Notes from Mrs. Clark

Know and be able to teach how food and drink were supplied to underground SpeakEasies

There were various food and beverages being supplied. But the most wanted there was alcohol. Since it was illegal for them to buy it, they used different methods for obtained it. They   imported from all over. Another way was that they took it into their own hands and made it themselves. Since the people making the alcohol were risking their freedom for it, they sold it at high prices to anybody willing to buy it.

Know and be able to discuss the negative impacts of alcohol in the body

Although many people back then didn't know much of the consequences of drinking, they drank without a care in the world. But there were actually many problems because of it. The one probably most common in the 1920's was aggression. People tend to be more aggressive when they're under the influence. So there were a lot of fights in SpeakEasies due do excessive drinking.
Something else that affect them was that at work thanks to excessive drinking. So they hurt their work place by going home sick. And that was another reason why they big companies didn't want them to be drinking. Also, they could get diseases that could be fatal. For example,  infection of the esophagus, infection of the stomach, infection of the pancreas, premature dementia. Those are just a couple of them.
