Senior Outline

Introduction: Due to the economic changes, most schools have low income and are unable to hold some subjects that the school officials think are less important then the main ones that are vital to the academic performance of the students. Since they see it as only an academic performance, the music programs in schools are mainly the first ones to be cut short. Music department in schools should not be cancelled since they benefit students in a variety of ways that they don't get from the other regular classes.

I. More Important subjects come first

i. Subjects that are more important educational wise need to have more amount of time so they can fully understand something.

II. Cost

i. Cutting music education will take a dent our of public education expenses.

III. Time

i. Music programs take tremendous amount of time since students need to learn to play an instrument, then practice long hours to perfect it, and only a short amount of time each day in school

IV. Noise and Distraction

i. Students who are taking music may become more involved in their study of music than in their practice of the basics of reading and math, and therefore they may struggle with important classes like reading and mathematics while excelling at music

V. Biased Against Other Arts

i. Some teachers and parents argue that if there is a music education department then every school should allow students to learn about film making, acting and other arts that are not an option at public schools. Cutting the music education department would dissolve some of that bias

VI. Makes Music Education Optional

i. Not everyone is interested in learning how to play a music or in learning music theory. Eliminating music education in public schools would allow students still interested in music the option of taking private lessons, while students who do not care to learn wouldn't be forced to.
